Starting on June 15th up until July 23rd, 2019, the 10th Civic Award “For a Better City” (“Por una Ciudad Mejor”) will be open to receive registrations. This program seeks to recognize groundbreaking initiatives to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Cali and to encourage their civic engagement and participation.
Any socially innovative initiatives from grassroots organizations and/or neighborhood associations are invited to participate. Those interested may register online using the application form that has been made available on the Alvaralice Foundation’s home page (www.alvaralice.org).
The jury will first choose the top 10 initiatives and then select the 3 finalists. The award will be distributed among the winners as seed money to be invested in their projects as follows:
– First place : COP $13M;
– Second place : COP $7
– Third place: COP $5M
The chosen top 10 initiatives will be able to receive organizational strengthening workshops, as well as administrative support and lots of media attention. They will also be included in the national directory of innovative grassroot organizations that have been identified by this award since its inception in 2006.
The Alvaralice Foundation is the coordinator of this award in Cali, and it is support by several foundations including Bolivar Davivienda, Carvajal, Corona, Club Campestre, Fanalca, WWB Colombia and Plan Internacional. It also has the sponsorship of educational institutions such as the Freinet School, the Minuto de Dios University Corporation and the Education and Research Center for Urban and Community Development (CEDECUR, by it’s Spanish acronym); and by media outlets such as Noticiero 90 Minutos and El País newspaper
