On Saturday the 25th of June, the Colombian-British School’s Symphonic Band and the Somos PacÃfico Tecnocentro’s Symphonic Orchestra joined forces to perform an ensemble concert at the Fine Arts Institute’s Beethoven Hall.
Seventy children and youths from both institutions came together for a second time to delight the audience with a repertoire of folk and international music. Strings and winds were harmoniously assembled under the direction of masters Arbey Castro and Valmore Escandón, showing how art and talent can unite people of very different backgrounds.
The proceeds from the concert were used to expand the programs and services offered at Somos PacÃfico and enlarge the number of beneficiaries.
The idea of this Ensemble Concert was born two years ago when Simon Ford, Honary Consul of the UK in Cali, visited Somos PacÃfico’s artistic and technological programs and introduced their orchestra to Catalina Valenzuela, director of the Colombian British School’s Alumni Office. She instantly became interested and organized a first joint concert to celebrate the day of the Immaculate Conception or Little Candles’ holiday, as the celebration is known in Colombia.
