On November 16th one hundred and twenty-three youths, residents of the Potrero Grande, Siloé and Altos de Menga low income neighborhoods, graduated from the employability program “Rumbo Joven” and are in the process of joining the work force.
We expect that more than 70% of them will find a permanent job with the help of the program’s business network. We trust that the skills they developed during their training with “Rumbo Joven” will allow them to find jobs on their own merits, thus contributing to the peacebuilding efforts of their city.
We would like to point out that from March of 2014 to date, 679 young men and women between the ages of 18 and 30 years have graduated from this program.
The organizations that are underwriting this project are: USAID, ACDI/VOCA, Tinker Foundation, Limmat Stiftung, EMpower, the Office of the Mayor of Cali through the Secretariat of Economic Development, the Cali Mayor’s office of the program called “Territories of Inclusion & Opportunities” (TIO’s), the Corona Foundation and the Alvaralice Foundation. The implementation of this program has been possible through partnerships with the Technocenter Somos Pacífico, the Center for Community Development San Francisco de Asís of the San Buenaventura University in Cali, Comfandi and the CreeSer, SIDOC and Colombia Women’s World Bank (WWB) Foundations.
