The reopening of the Tecnocentro Cultural Somos Pacífico on February 2nd was a source of immense joy for the community of Potrero Grande. Despite the difficulties brought forth by the pandemic, the community was able to initiate their training. All activities followed rigorous biosafety protocols by limiting the number of people allowed indoors and by taking maximum advantage of the center’s outdoor spaces.
In Potrero Grande, schools are still closed and being held virtually, and for this reason, the Somos Pacífico community is grateful to be able to send their children to enjoy a safe and spacious learning environment at the Tecnocentro.
One of this institution’s goals for 2021 is to generate self-sustaining and job-generating programs for the entire community. Community leaders are recruiting volunteers to plan projects focused on extending the Tecnocentro’s service hours and improving public spaces. Additionally, the center is creating a pilot plan for garbage management, which will create employment, ecological awareness, and best practices in garbage recycling processes.
