Colombianas is a multimedia project that aims to give a collective voice to Colombian women, especially on issues that have been silenced in many quarters of society. This month we are featuring María Elena, who is a proud member of the Misak indigenous community, a mother, a teacher, and a student who lives in Guambía, in the mountains of Silvia – Cauca. She is part of a generation adapting to the advantages and disadvantages of preserving their cultural traditions, while also trying to open up to new ways of life outside of their town.
