Meeting ‘Cali Epicenter: Development and Peace’\u00a0From 23 to 24 August 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n General objective<\/strong><\/p>\n Colombia needs to make profound changes in the institutional, social and economic to be a more equitable, inclusive, harmonious and with higher levels of development.<\/p>\n The purpose of the meeting Cali Epicenter: Development and Peace is to analyze and propose the changes that Colombia requires in the economic, social, cultural and political spheres, in order to guarantee the construction of peace and its sustainability. The materialization of these changes requires a deep citizen awareness about the importance of their active commitment.<\/p>\n Specific objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n 1. State the status of the Havana agreements to date, and other ongoing peace processes in the country.<\/p>\n 2. Contribute to the construction of a collective conscience on the dignification of the human being and especially the victims of the armed conflict. 3. Identify the role of culture as a mechanism of utmost importance in the construction of social capital and in the transformation of imaginaries, which makes possible the peaceful coexistence and the reconstruction of the social fabric.<\/p>\n 4. Analyze the problems and weaknesses of our political institutions and the organization of the State to generate the necessary transformations. It will be held in the heart of the Historic Center of Cali, in iconic places like the Public Improvement Society, the Municipal Theater Enrique Buenaventura and the Cultural Center of Cali.<\/p>\n Methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n DAY 1. Inauguration – Tuesday, August 23<\/p>\n DAY 2. Academic agenda and cultural show – Wednesday, August 24<\/p>\n In the first four time slots, each axis will be developed in a parallel format in the town hall 1. \n<\/strong>The event will be hosted by the Mayor of Cali, Maurice Armitage; The governor of Valle del Cauca, Dilian Francisca Toro, and the Executive Director of the Foundation\u00a0FDI Pac\u00edfico, Alejandro Eder. Then, a conversation will be opened between Sergio Jaramillo, High Commissioner for La Paz; Humberto de la Calle, leader of the negotiating team in Havana, Frank Pearl, leader of the negotiation with the ELN and Rafael Pardo, minister of the Postconflict, so that on the one hand they specify the current state of the negotiation process with the FARC and the ELN, And on the other, explain how the State is preparing for the integral construction of peace.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>The academic agenda will begin the day with a conference of Father Francisco de Roux to raise awareness of the importance of the dignification of the human being as a central reference in the transformations that Colombia must register as a society.\u00a0Subsequently, the academic program will focus on three thematic axes: economic development, social and cultural development, and political and institutional transformations, as well as art as a tool for peace. This proposal is intended to indicate that development has a multidimensional character where the economic factor is necessary but in no case sufficient, because what should focus the process is to improve the quality of life of human beings. This is the way by which the country can build a sustainable peace over time.<\/p>\n
