The first rap music festival, “Art Without Borders”, was held in March with young participants of the Cure Violence (Abriendo Caminos) program of the Alvaralice Foundation. The festival allowed the interaction of young people through musical activities with the objective of promoting peaceful coexistence and helping reduce the rate of violence in their neighborhood.
Did you Know?:
- “Cure Violence” stops the spread of violence by using the methods and strategies associated with disease control – detecting and interrupting conflicts, identifying and treating the highest risk individuals, and changing social norms – with resulting reductions in violence of up to 70%.
- In Cali, participants of this program changed the name of the program from Cure Violence to Abriendo Caminos (Opening Pathways), as they felt it describes better the program’s activities and objectives.
