We are pleased to announce that, as of February 5th, Juan Camilo Cock Misas has assumed the position of Executive Director of the Fundación Alvaralice. Juan Camilo will continue to implement Alvaralice’s mission of helping build a more inclusive and peaceful society through its various programs.
His main challenge will be to promote national and international alliances with organizations committed to improving the welfare of vulnerable communities in Colombia, and to continue making sure that the Foundation’s work is in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDG is an ambitious set of goals to reduce poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
Juan Camilo has a degree in anthropology from Universidad de los Andes, a master’s degree in Anthropology of Development and Social Transformation from the University of Sussex in the UK, and a PhD in Human Geography from the Queen Mary University of London. Dr. Cock lived for ten years in the UK, where he was the London projects coordinator at the Migrants Rights Network, developing partnerships and campaigns for the rights of migrants and refugees. From 2013 to 2016 he led the civic action and coexistence department at the Foundation for Education and Social Development and in 2016 he joined the Mayor´s office in Cali as Undersecretary for Territories of Inclusion and Opportunities where he worked until 2019.
