During the month of October, finalists for the Civic Prize (Premio Cívico) in Buenaventura 2024-2025 were visited by the panel members who made field inspections of their social initiatives in the Buenaventura community. This edition has become a key opportunity to make the community leaders’ work visible as the strive to transform their communities’ social and economic realities. For two days, the panel members toured the neighborhoods and sectors in which the initiatives are carried out, listened to stories and proposals of those promoting community development and well-being from many areas of activity.

Before reaching this stage, the finalists participated in a training process designed to strengthen their projects within their target communities. This allowed them to strengthen their administrative and organizational structure, ensuring sustainable and effective

operations. The Buenaventura Civic Prize focuses not only on recognizing social leadership; it also seeks to support projects by providing seed capital to the winning initiatives. The financial support allows the finalists to not only sustain their operations, but to grow and expand their community impact.

With participation of panel members recognized for their experience in diverse areas, the

prize seeks to guarantee a full evaluation from different perspectives. This process is not only crucial to the selected initiatives’ development; it also generates a space for reflection on the importance of social leadership within the current context of Colombia’s principal Pacific

port. By making these actions visible, the Civic Prize for a Better City reaffirms its commitment to the construction of a more just and sustainable future for all inhabitants of this region of the Pacific.
